A paraplanner is much more than a report writer (just look at our many other modules for proof!). But report writing is a fundamental role. What many people forget, however, is that the suitability report is only one piece of the overall advice process.

This module will help guide paraplanners through the overall framework. Using our decades' worth of experience, we will highlight important areas that a paraplanner should look at before even starting a suitability report, which will hopefully help improve firm’s efficiencies and of course, mean great customer outcomes.

When it comes to the actual construction of the suitability report, the FCA gives us pretty much free rein. Unfortunately, this is not utilised throughout the industry as the mass majority out there are, frankly, dull as dishwater. Within this module, we’ll be looking to spice them up and guide paraplanners through the basics of constructing an engaging suitability report. This, in addition to our report writing module, should result in knowledgeable, happy clients!

This module is defined by four units. They are:

  • Pre-report preparation
  • Report construction
  • Niche report construction
  • Incorporating research into suitability reports

During this module, you will:

  • Outline what a paraplanner needs to have in place before starting to produce a suitability report.
  • Compare and contrast the expected suitability report content of top-ups, fund switches, new pensions, new investments, pension reviews, pension drawdowns and investment reviews.
  • Evaluate the expected suitability report content of protection, annuity, annual suitability, EIS and VCT reports.
  • Outline the role research tools play in supporting a financial adviser’s recommendations.
