Every product has been designed with a specific client audience in mind and financial products are no different. It may not be as apparent at first when you're used to products that are advertised every day, such as shoes, cars, or wallets. However, this brings us onto an important issue, and it is one which is still on the FCA’s radar.

As financial intermediaries, we are relied upon by clients to ensure that their needs have been clearly catered for. If this involves recommending a particular product or provider, has the firm clearly identified that this is suitable for the client? Not sure? Then arguably the firm is at risk for not treating their customers fairly. This may even result in regulatory intervention, sanctions, and reputational damage.

One of our goals is to help firms deliver great customer outcomes and to enhance the overall integrity of financial services. This brings us to our module where we share our expertise (including ready-made templates to allow you to put what you’ve learnt into practice) so that firms can achieve a research process which is not only streamlined and efficient but has been built upon the basic principle of treating customers fairly.

This module is defined by four units. They are:

  • PROD and products
  • Platforms
  • Platform due diligence
  • The value of platforms

During this module, you will:

  • Summarise the different products available to clients.
  • Understand the purpose of PROD and why it was introduced.
  • Consider how a firm's process can be adapted so that it adheres to PROD.
  • Outline how the financial advice sector has responded to developments within the platform industry.
  • Understand the importance of carrying out a watertight due diligence process in selecting an appropriate platform for clients.
  • Consider the ways in which platforms have boosted efficiency for advisers, as well as made life easier for clients.
