Food for thought

We’ve done a little survey around the office to find out what people like to snack on when they are revising for exams – some of the results have been pretty surprising…

Chewing gum – Chewing gum while revising a subject and then chewing the same flavour in the exam has apparently helped some of our team remember facts as they are associated with the flavour. How that works we have no idea, but maybe try a different flavour for different subjects?

The smartie reward – Placing a smartie at the end of every section / page that you are reading so that you get a reward for every one you complete was surprisingly popular! Obviously smarties can be replaced by any sweetie that you prefer.

Broccoli – Alright, maybe not the greatest choice of snack, but hear us out – it’s full of vitamin K, which improves brain function and the ability to process information, which could be useful both for revision and sitting the exams. You might just have to find some good recipes to include broccoli in your plans.

Citrus fruits – or really anything that’s high in vitamin C (including strawberries, peppers and tomatoes) as these will keep your immune system high – particularly good at this time of year! As you can lack sleep and not look after yourself as well when you are stuck in the middle of revising, keeping your immune system strong with fruity snacks might be a good idea.

Walnuts – high in omega 3 which can help you maintain low blood pressure (possibly not when you’re just about to sit your exam) and improve your memory. These are particularly good on top of a coffee cake, so you can have a little sugar rush at the same time…

Really, as long as you are eating well, sleeping as well as possible and drinking lots of water to stay hydrated any study you do will help.
