Only just failed? Is it worth requesting a remark?

This month we’re talking to one of our friends over at The Verve Group, Lee Hastie; on his recent positive experience with getting his exam remarked by the CII.

“I sat my AF7 exam at the back end of last year, and due to the COVID-19 restrictions, I felt there was a lot of disruption in the exam and the facilities were not great. Upon receiving my result just prior to Christmas I was frustrated to see that I had failed my exam by just one mark, so I was planning to re-sit this in the new year.

I then found out about CII’s ‘Post results review of marking’ functionality, where you can get your mark reviewed by a second pair of eyes and gain feedback on your mark. I applied for my remark on the 7th of February and was told that I would get a response within 35 days. With great delight, the very next morning my remark was already in, and I had been marked up, meaning I had passed the exam.

Obviously, I was over the moon with this result. I did have to pay £86 for the remark, but this is then refunded if you are marked up, and the re-sit would have cost me more than this amount anyway. I would definitely recommend this service to others who have felt their exam did not go to plan!”

If like Lee you have had a bad experience with a written exam (remote or in a centre) and would like to apply for a re-mark, please check the CII’s Post-Results services page for more information. Please note, the service Lee used was specific to written exams, but there are numerous ways the CII can help you if you think your exam was unfair in any way, all of which are listed on this page.
