What is a financial administrator?

We think financial administrators are often the unsung heroes in advice firms, and we’re on a mission to create a whole army of them!

So, what does a financial administrator actually do?

A financial Administrator is the backbone of a financial advice firm. They juggle many plates and their role is crucial in making sure everything runs smoothly. The tasks vary from arranging meetings, data gathering, minute taking, processing new business. To facilitating transactions for clients, helping them to access their online accounts and packaging up and posting off suitability reports and annual review letters.

No two admin usually do the same role as it is usually very specific to each business and the individuals’ strengths. In addition, you can specialise in various areas of the business, some Administrators may know the CRM system inside and out so are in charge of keeping the rest of the team up to date. Others will love data gathering and pass on their knowledge of what works to others in their team.

We caught up with Hannah, a Senior Financial Administrator from our sister paraplanning company,She gave us a bit of an insight into her role and typical tasks and responsibilities.

“Organisation and time management are key to the role. I love a to do list and a spreadsheet to help stay on track working simultaneously for a number of advising firms on different case types.

I personally enjoy writing emails rather than reports, the role allows us to work on lots of different cases in one day rather than focussing on one or two reports, which can be a challenge but keeps it interesting and no two days are the same.

It makes sense I love my job so much as always been a fan of the Tomb Raider game series, attempting to get the correct information out of a defined benefit pension administrator within CETV guarantee dates can be compared to the life of Lara Croft; a series of puzzles and dangerous acrobatics in order to achieve one’s goal, therefore having patience and confidence are paramount to be successful.”
